Interpreter Training Institute

The Challenge

Recruiting bilinguals is the most challenging part for tax offices who want to serve the Hispanic community. This is because Spanish speakers are in high demand right now and will often hold out for the highest paying job. As a franchise owner, you know that you can't afford to match salaries with bigger companies. Your employees work seasonally with no guaranteed hours and no benefits. So what can you possibly do to attract competent, qualified bilinguals???

Most bilinguals dream of being able to participate in formal training for interpreters but are unable to afford the tuition. Interpreting is a lucrative career but the best jobs do require formal training, testing and on the job experience. Unfortunately very few bilinguals can afford the $2,000 tuition fees as well as the time involved.

The Answer

The Interpreter Training Program is a ten week course that combines distance learning with on the job experience. Students must work in a tax office for a minimum of 100 hours during the course.

This training program exposes students to the culturally diverse Hispanic community while building skills necessary for appropriate functioning within the interpreter role.

With 22 online hours of instruction and twenty hours of homework, students learn basic interpreting skills, tax preparation terminology, appropriate cultural behaviors and ethics.

The Details

You will be able to advertise that if a bilingual comes to work for you for a certain period of time, you will pay for them to be trained as an Interpreter. This is a scholarship valued at $2,000 and is guaranteed to attract many qualified applicants! However, instead of two thousand dollars, you will only pay $200 for the student training. This will cover all instruction and materials for the entire ten weeks. We will also provide you with advertisements about the program to attract applicants as well as an employment contract. The employment contract specifies that if the student quits or is fired for cause before the contract ends, you have the right to take $200 out of their final paycheck. In exchange for paying for the employee to attend the Interpreter Training, the employee agrees to work for you as long as you specify.

In addition, we will test all applicants to ensure that they are fluent in Spanish. Then the student will be sent a webcast each week via email that they will listen to at their own leisure. The student will study for an hour and complete homework assignments that involve on the job work in your office. At the end of ten weeks, the student will receive a certificate of completion of forty hours of Interpreter Training.

Blaire, you are a great Teacher, excellent Mentor for the Latino Community.
-Diana

Please let Blaire know how much she is helping us understand even more about the Hispanic communities. Even after having lived in Puerto Rico for the past 48 years and working with a Puerto Rican owned business I am still surprised about how much I can still learn and am amazed at the different customs that exist among the different Spanish speaking Countries.
-Mary Helen

This class is a great learning experience and a wonderful opportunity to help me become an advocate for the Hispanic Community here in Kernersville, North Carolina.
